Preparation
- In a saucepan, combine the rolled oats and milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the oats are soft and creamy, about 10-15 minutes. If necessary, add a bit more milk to ensure the mixture is smooth and not too thick.
- Once the oats are cooked, remove from heat and let cool slightly. In a blender, combine the cooked oats, ripe bananas, honey (if using), and vanilla extract. Blend until completely smooth and creamy.
- If the mixture is too thick, add a splash more of milk to reach your desired consistency. Blend again until fully incorporated.
- Pour the smoothie mixture into bowls and enjoy immediately, or refrigerate for later use. It can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
Notes
Texture Tips: For an even softer texture, ensure the bananas are very ripe and the oats are cooked thoroughly. Adjust the amount of milk based on your desired consistency; adding more will create a smoother blend. If a creamier texture is preferred, you can also incorporate a scoop of yogurt before blending.
This smoothie bowl can be topped with pureed fruits or a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra flavor. To check if the oats are soft enough, they should be fully creamy and not grainy when tasted. For best results, consume fresh, but it can also be enjoyed chilled.
